The complicated 242 shift linkage is poorly designed and just gets so sloppy between the extra linkage, pivot points, and loose bushings. This part can be used with a 231c shift lever and linkage you assembled yourself or with our kit that supplies a shift lever that will replace the existing one on the case and be orientated to where it will point up. This allows us to run a direct linkage from the shifter to the t case shift lever.

Great product for the money, but not as simple install as they say

So I attempted the linkage install on Tuesday 11/19. Went horribly. You NEED snap ring pliers, which I didnt have. Had to borrow the neighbor's car to get some lol... couldnt get the shifter linkage assembly back into the body with the longer Frame Side Shift Lever... Put it back the way it was, took it to my mechanic today. We got it in but he had to cut out a minor part of the body near the linkage assembly in order to get it in. Then adjusting it was a pain. Finally got it as close to perfect as we could. It reaches all the different positions but getting it to move back from 4low to N/Full-time is a pretty hard push but it works. Sprayed it down with some lithium grease hoping it will help it out... Could be just bcuz my tcase hasnt been in 4low in at least a year. Or bcuz my jeep currently holds 202,3XX miles on it as a 2000. But... it works... and it works a HELL of a lot better than the awful cable Novak TC linkage I had in there... (will be putting this in a box with my receipt and mailing to Novak with a very ugly letter about false advertisement for the NP242 XJ). Overall: great product compared to the competition or stock set-up. But detailed and accurate instructions would be a huge help.
